Background Information on Laser Hair Removal (Excerpt)

by Christine C. Dierickx, M.D., Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine, Harvard Medical School
Laser hair removal focuses on the endogenous chromophore melanin, which is mainly found in the hair shaft, with a small amount present in the upper third of the follicular epithelium. When an appropriate energy source (such as a laser) is directed at the skin, light is primarily absorbed in the hair shaft melanin. Heat is generated and diffuses to the surrounding follicular epithelium. Click Here to Read More Clinical Study Information

One of our experienced, skilled, and highly trained nurses will gently glide a rectangular laser tip along the surface of the treatment area, after first cooling and protecting the skin with soothing aloe vera gel. Depending on the body area being treated, you will be scheduled to come in every 4 to 7 weeks. Results may be seen after just 3 treatments, but can take 6 or more times for longer term results.
